Adaptive differential pulse code modulation is a process of converting analog voice signals into encoded digital signals through the use of predictive codes that are created by analyzing the previous digital audio signals. ADPCM is derived from the original pulse code modulation (PCM) system that commonly represents an analog signal as 64 kbps (called a DS0). ADPCM systems commonly provide digital signals at 32 kbps and 16 kbps. CATV Books
